Buteyko Breathing Retraining Program

HOW BUTEYKO BREATHING WORKS

Welcome to the Pain and Sleep Therapy Center and The Center for Airway and Facial Development, Buteyko Breathing Program!

The Buteyko breathing method uses breath retention exercises to control the speed and volume of your breath. It helps improve breath awareness, encourages nasal breathing, and limits over-breathing.

By practicing the technique you’ll learn to breathe properly and efficiently, which can help prevent issues such as wheezing, coughing, and feeling short of breath. It can also help to alleviate unnecessary coughing and clear blocked nasal passages.

It’s used to manage and improve a variety of conditions, including asthma, anxiety, and sleep concerns.

Open airways and better circulation are just a couple of the benefits you’ll experience using the Buteyko Breathing method.

Buteyko Breathing follows these simple methods:

Re-training your body to breathe functionally in and out through the nose. The breath is light, regular, effortless with the primary movement from the diaphragm.
Progress is determined by a special breath hold test called the Control Pause
Expected benefits include easier breathing, deeper sleep, more energy, reduced asthma and nasal congestion along with increased feeling of calm.
Simple Buteyko exercises are taught to people of all ages and are meant to decongest the nose, switch to nasal breathing along with exercises to restore functional breathing patterns.

HOW BUTEYKO BREATHING WORKS

Lauren Reinholt – RDH, OMT, QOM

Newark, DE Office
Lauren has been in the dental field for over 15 years and has spent the majority of her career as a Registered Dental Hygienist. As a hygienist she found that building a rapport with children and parents was her biggest strength. She truly enjoyed having an impact on their dental health but wanted to offer a comprehensive total health approach to her patients. Her passion for Health and Wellness led Lauren to further her education in learning the correlation between proper growth and development and the impact it has on total health.
After attending a course in Myofunctional Therapy, Lauren realized this was the missing link that would allow her to take her career to the next level. Utilizing this exercised based therapy, she teaches her patients awareness of proper tongue placement, nasal breathing, and correct chewing and swallowing patterns. This treatment approach allows her to help patients reach their full genetic potential and prevent a lifetime of problems that would otherwise not have been addressed in our current medical model of healthcare.
Lauren is also Butekyo Breathing certified which emphasizes nasal breathing, breathing awareness, relaxation, and diaphragmatic breathing. This therapy coupled with myofunctional therapy is what makes Lauren unique and allows her to treat everyone, from the smallest of patients all the way throughout life.

Kate Bruni – M.S., CCC- SLP

Kate trained under Joy Moeller and Samantha Weaver at the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy.
She also completed Patrick Mckeown’s Buteyko Breathing Program. She is uniquely qualified to treat children and adults who struggle with nasal breathing, oral rest posture and chewing and swallowing difficulties.
